Dr. Chen received her MD in 1993 from Shanghai Second Medical University, People’s Republic of China, where she also earned her Ph.D. in May 2003 and M.S in 1999. Her work experience includes Shanghai XinHuai Hospital from 1993-1996 and after her PHD she worked at Lab of developmental biology as an Assistant Professor of Shanghai Second Medical University for the period of 2003-2004. Prior to joining the Cellular Reprogramming Lab in 2007, she worked in a high biotech company as a Research Scientist in London, UK (2005 to 2006).

Her main scientific interest is medicine regeneration--hoping to find some new methods in cell or tissue engineering through animal models. She did a number of studies around cell replacement. Her Ph.D. thesis is “A proof-of-concept experiment of therapeutic cloning: human adult somatic cell reprogrammed by oocytes.” After that, she developed a multipotential cell line from human primordial germ cells, and joined to establish human embryonic stem (ES) cell lines by IVF embryo. On the other hand, she was working in the embryonic stem cells differentiation as well; inducing mouse ES cell differentiate to haematopoietic cells.

In the Cellular Reprogramming Lab she will continue to focus on human somatic cell reprogramming and its molecular mechanisms.
