Amy Iager is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Cellular Reprogramming Laboratory. Her dissertation project involves elucidating the mechanisms underlying the reprogramming of a differentiated somatic cell to a pluripotent embryonic one which occurs during somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). Amy acquired her BS degree from Virginia Tech, from the Department of Dairy Science. During that time, she developed an interest in using the bovine model to investigate the mechanisms of reprogramming following SCNT. Amy’s immediate goals are to continue her research in bovine SCNT. Her long term goals include communicating the benefits of animal biotechnology and therapeutic cloning to the public. Amy is also a fifth generation dairy farmer from Maryland, and in her free time, enjoys breeding and showing dairy cattle at national and international levels.
